Highlights and Accomplishments
Besides celebrating its five-year anniversary, the Museum had many other highlights and accomplishments to note:

Young Museum visitors enjoying Exhibits.More than 110,000 school children received free admission to the Museum’s exhibits in Fiscal Year 2006, while the Museum’s scholarship program provided free or reduced admission to the theaters for more than 125 school children.

From September 1, 2005 - August 31, 2006 the Museum had available 786 historic artifacts and documents on loan from across Texas.

From September 1, 2005 through August 31, 2006, the Museum welcomed more than 462,320 visitors, 73% of whom came from the Austin area and 14% from around the Lone Star State.

From gaining a greater understanding of slavery and its impact on Texas, to exploring the state's larger-than-life history, legends, and people, the Museum enhanced its permanent exhibits this year with three special exhibitions: The Face of Texas: Photographs by Michael O'Brien, A Slave Ship Speaks: The Wreck of the Henrietta Marie, and It STILL Ain't Braggin' If It's True.

This year, 161 volunteers contributed more than 12,000 hours of volunteer service to the Museum's programs, special events, and educational activities.

This year, 6,319 households "made it official" by becoming Museum Members.

Image of Adult Museum visitors.On October 2, 2005, the Museum introduced Visions and Voices, a new program hosted by the Museum's Story of Texas Society that will present distinguished speakers and programs on a featured topic each fall.

This year, 369 teachers took part in Museum pre-service and in-service professional development sessions. These sessions train educators in how to use the Museum exhibits to teach math, science, art, and social studies.

More than eighty-five corporations, individuals, associations, and groups held events at the Museum this past year.

Three Millionth VisitorOn August 26, 2006, the Cadenas family of Austin, Texas, were greeted at the front doors as the three millionth visitor to the Museum. Museum Director, Lynn Denton presented them with a complimentary one-year Family membership, a gift basket from the Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau, and a proclamation signed by Governor Rick Perry.
