Volunteer Opportunities
Education Volunteer
Education Volunteers engage school-aged children and facilitate their study of the Museum's exhibits. In collaboration with the Museum's Education department, Volunteers implement Education programming to enhance the themes presented in the exhibits.
Essential Functions
- Volunteers implement Education programming in the Museum exhibits.
- Volunteers encourage interactive, hands-on learning through demonstrations and participatory activities.
- Volunteers engage young audiences in unique and creative ways to the Exhibit's themes.
- Volunteers accurately convey historical information to visitors as presented in the Exhibit's content.
- Volunteers provide exceptional customer service by answering questions, offering information and giving directions to visitors.
Commitment
- Volunteers agree to volunteer a minimum of four times per month.
- Shifts vary from 2 to 3 hours depending on the activity.
- Regular, weekly scheduled times and shifts are preferred.
Training
- Orientation to the Volunteer program
- Exhibit content trainings (for each floor you wish to teach)
- Programming trainings (for each floor you wish to teach)
- Scheduled Education Volunteer meetings
- Observe/Co-teach at least 3 programs dates with staff or other Education Volunteers.
- Evaluation of presentation by Museum staff.
Desirable skills
- Volunteers must be able to engage young audiences.
- Volunteers must have a knowledge of and an interest in Texas history.
• Previous experience as a education volunteer working with children or a school teacher is preferred. - Fluency in another language is preferred.
- Weekend and evening availability are preferred.
Note: May require prolonged periods of standing and/or walking.
