Austin City Limits achievement award
Homemade award presented to Lloyd Maines by the Dixie Chicks
Austin City Limits (ACL), the longest-running show dedicated to music in the history of television, first aired in 1974. Since then, no performer has played its stage more times than pedal steel musician Lloyd Maines, who has 22 (and counting) ACL appearances to his credit.
To honor and celebrate Lloyd Maines's achievement of appearing on Austin City Limits more than any other performer, the Dixie Chicks (Natalie Maines, Martie Maguire, and Emily Robison) constructed and presented him with this homemade award in 1999. The award is modeled after a pedal steel guitar, the instrument Maines is best known for playing.
Maines was inducted into the ACL Hall of Fame on June 26, 2014. The event, which marked the 40th anniversary of ACL, was hosted by Jeff Bridges and Sheryl Crow and featured performances by Gary Clark, Jr., Joe Ely, Robert Earl Keen, Kris Kristofferson, Bonnie Raitt, Jimmy Vaughan, and Lloyd himself.
