Volunteer

Applications for the volunteer program are now open.

The primary role of volunteers at the Bullock is to assist the Museum's Visitor Services, Programs, and Events teams by fostering a welcoming experience for all visitors.

Basic expectations for prospective volunteers include the following:

  • Commitment to the Museum's mission of creating experiences that educate, engage, and encourage a deeper understanding of Texas
  • Passion for Texas history and culture
  • Enthusiasm for welcoming and interacting with people from all walks of life

Positions and Responsibilities

Podium Attendant

Responsibilities of each Podium Attendant varies based on location but generally include answering Museum visitors' FAQs, help with wayfinding, checking admission tickets, and gently enforcing Museum rules.

Rotunda Attendant

This position acts as the first contact with the public. Responsibilities include greeting and orienting visitors and providing crowd control when needed.

Gallery Roamer

A Gallery Roamer's responsibility is to be an amiable and approachable presence within the galleries. This volunteer interacts with Museum visitors by answering FAQs, responding to general customer service needs and crowd control (particularly for student groups), and gently enforcing Museum rules.

Programs and Events Volunteer

The Bullock hosts a wide range of programs and events all year long. Responsibilities of the Programs and Events volunteers include:

  • Managing activity and workshop stations. This includes hands-on activity preparation and instruction
  • Providing visitor wayfinding, general customer service, and crowd control for children, teens, and adults during program and event hours
  • Assisting with program set-up and tabling

Qualifications and Orientation

Prospective volunteers must be at least 18 years old to apply. Once an application is reviewed and approved, the applicant will be contacted for an interview.

After acceptance into the program, volunteers will be scheduled for New Volunteer Orientation, which includes a general overview of the role of the volunteer, each position and its responsibilities, and the layout and historical content of the Museum.
