Quilt, "The Undaunted Buffalo Soldier"
An African American story expressed through handcraft
This mixed-media story quilt, titled The Undaunted Buffalo Soldier, was designed and sewn in 2012 by artist Gloria Kellon to commemorate the African American troops known as the Buffalo Soldiers.
Kellon used cotton, faux leather, metal buttons, Persian lamb fur, grosgrain ribbon, and knit fabric to create this story quilt featuring the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments and the 24th and 25th Infantry Regiments, known as Buffalo Soldiers. The soldiers served in Texas and other western states.
