Painted Pebble from Prehistoric Texas
Early art painted on rocks
Print Page
Paintings indicate early signs of art found on cave walls and on rocks
The arts have been alive and well in Texas for a long time. Pictographs, much like the ones found on this painted pebble, have been discovered on cave walls and rocks all over the state. This pebble was among the many excavated from West Texas rock shelters and dry caves. The rock's purpose and the meaning of the painted designs are unknown.
