Immortalized by a preeminent Texas sculptor
Stephen F. Austin is forever captured in this plaster cast bust, sculpted by Elisabet Ney and unveiled at the World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago in 1893.
Ney was one of the first professional sculptors in Texas. She modeled the sculpture after portraits of Austin given to her by his nephew. The full marble statue is on display at the Texas capitol building. The original plaster statue is housed at the Elisabet Ney Museum in Austin.
