Texas Lignite Specimen
Abundant resource important to industrial energy production
Print Page
Lignite is commonly referred to as "brown coal" and was first mined in central and east Texas in the 1850s. While lignite has not been a major power source since oil and gas became readily available in the 1940s and 1950s, it is still used to generate electricity for power plants in Texas.
