Gathering Clouds
When I noticed these beautiful clouds gathering while I was driving toward Terlingua in the Croton Spring area, I couldn’t resist capturing the moment.
EnlargeScratching an Itch
I first noticed this Roadrunner when I heard him calling while I was exploring around Dugout Wells. I caught this pose as he scratched his itch.
EnlargeYellow Prickly Pear Cactus Flower
As I was hiking the Chisos Basin Loop Trail, I encountered this beautiful yellow prickly pear cactus flower. In fact, it seemed that the hovering syrphid fly admired it almost as much as I did.
EnlargeAsylum
The backyard of Desert Sports provides a great place to unwind and view the Chisos Mountains.
EnlargeRio Grande Village Sunset
I was rushing to catch the sunset at the overlook near Rio Grande Village, but I was late, so I had to settle for this sunset view of the pond on the way up to the overlook. I wasn’t disappointed.
EnlargeDugout Wells Earless Lizard
While exploring Big Bend, I pulled into Dugout Wells just to check it out. There I found this male Greater Earless Lizard waiting to greet me.
EnlargeCactus Wren of Big Bend
As I was trying to get oriented on my first morning in Big Bend, this Cactus Wren stopped by a flowering Giant Dagger Yucca plant outside my room at the Chisos Mountains Lodge to say hello.
EnlargeMonarch of Big Bend
While hiking the Chisos Basin Trail, I found these two beauties together – a Monarch Butterfly atop a Desert Marigold.
EnlargeRiver Road Sunrise
In this photo, as the sun rises over River Road, it appears that pure gold is being poured out over the hills. I left the lens flare in an attempt to capture the organic nature of the moment and the brightness and warmth emerging from the sun.
EnlargeMartian Octotillo
A look at a beautiful Octotillo blooming against a nearly Martian looking backdrop.
