Terlingua Cemetery
Terlingua Cemetery, against the backdrop of the Chisos Mountains, both cautions and beckons visitors to dig deeper into the history of this place.
EnlargeLost Mine Peak
Hiking the Lost Mine Trail mid-morning in March. View south from the ridge, as we head on to the switchbacks.
EnlargeTuff
Detail of the tuff that makes up much of the park. A miniature Tuff Canyon, maybe a scoop of ice cream that wouldn't last long on a hot desert day.
EnlargeHeading to Rio Grande Village
Going to Rio Grande Village to the store and catch some showers, through the tunnel. Afterwards, do some hiking and have lunch, which we brought with us.
EnlargeCottonwoods at Rio Grande Village
A wonderful spring day and here we are at Rio Grande Village. Just got back from the Nature Trail and decided to have lunch under the old cottonwoods.
EnlargeTimeless Window to the Past
For me the Balanced Rock is a visual depiction of timeless nature. Seeing the mountain line through the Balanced Rock gives the right proportion of Big Bend size and wildness.
EnlargeWilson's Warbler
The Wilson's warbler is a common spring and fall migrant, traveling to and from the far north. This is a spring male in breeding plumage on the way, maybe to as far as Alaska.
EnlargeYellow-Rumped Warbler
A common winter resident, this male is in breeding plumage ready for migration.
EnlargePainted Bunting
Early morning photo sit at Sam Nail Ranch. When the well is running, this is a wonderful area for year round and migrating small birds.
