Castolon Peak and Mule Ears at Dawn
The light changes very rapidly at sunrise, as does the atmosphere. Within 10 minutes I captured 10 photos that all have a different feel. This is why I love this park!
EnlargeInstant Waterfall
In March of 2015 Larry Arnold and I had just survived a sudden downpour of rain and hail at Rio Grande Village campgrounds. We were driving back to Chisos Basin when we saw this waterfall pouring off a mountain. It may have been Chwilicotal Mountain.
EnlargeRoad to Boquillas
A classic picture stop on the way to Boquillas. The Sierra del Carmen after driving Old Ore Road or on the way to Boquilas. The Boquillas Canyon trail has wonderful views above and then dips below to the Rio Grande.
EnlargeSun-kissed Mountain Tops
After spending the last night camping in SW2, the hike back to the Chisos Basin began. Along the Laguna Meadows Trail, the way in which sun rose and shone on the mountains is a truly beautiful sight.
EnlargeSouthwest Rim
The Southwest Rim of Big Bend truly offers the most spectacular views of the beautiful mountains where Texas meets Mexico along the Rio Grande River.
EnlargeSouthwest Rim
Sunday afternoons are perfect for a hike down to the South Rim. The Southeast side was closed due to falcon breeding, nevertheless the western rim was beautiful on this mildly foggy March day
EnlargeOld Visitors and New Roads
Tucked in a hidden corner of the park, these messages from earlier visitors were left for newer ones.
