South Rim
It was warm (upper 40s) and sunny above the cloud layer. I've lost track of how often I have hiked to the rim over the past 30 years but this view was new to me.

EnlargeBig Bend Seasonal Pond in 1986
This may have been the last time the Park Service filled the seasonal pond behind the store at Rio Grande Village. Only a few years later the pond was dry and today the cottonwoods are gone or nearly so.
EnlargeBirdies
Taken in the Chisos Basin Campground; they were singing on a rock around 3040feet from our campsite we grabbed the telephoto and they stayed long enough to get a few pictures.
EnlargeBluebonnets on River Road East
Bluebonnets taken on River Road East between Glenn Springs Road and the main Park Road near Rio Grande Village; Chisos Mountains in the background; we hit the park at the perfect time for wildflowers (second week of March).
EnlargeNight at the Basin Campsites
There was a half moon that allowed pictures of the stars along with some detail of the Casa Grande.
EnlargeHigh Chisos from Dodson Trail
We had snow overnight and it had all melted by the afternoon with a dusting left on the mountains. We later learned the road into the basin was closed this day due to snow.
