Celebrating 100 years of the Texas State Park System
On view January 7, 2023 to April 30, 2023
Inside the Exhibition
For the first time in the Texas State Park System's 100 year history and in celebration of its centennial, the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has commissioned Texan artists to paint scenes from their parks. Thirty artists were tasked with exploring and painting 65 parks, natural areas, and historic sites in the state park system. This exhibition showcases a selection of 34 paintings. These paintings are as varied as the parks themselves and offer a snapshot of Texas’s ecosystems and history. They include paintings in a variety of material, including oil, acrylic, pastel, watercolor, charcoal, and Batik. Each painting is accompanied by an artist's statement about what inspired them and why they fell in love with Texas's state parks. The exhibit is presented in English and Spanish.
