African American Hi(stories) Through Art: Hands-on Lab
Programs
August 4, 2015 10:00am - 3:00pm
Educators, join us for a professional development at the Bullock Museum to explore African American Hi(stories) Through Art.
How can historical events be depicted through art? How can art be used as a way for students to make connections to various subjects, such as social studies and language arts? Why is storytelling through visual art such an effective form of expression?
Join us at the African American Hi(stories) Through Art: Hands-on Lab to discuss these questions and explore two Special Exhibitions currently on display, And Still We Rise: Race, Culture, and Visual Conversations and Reflections: African American Life from the Myrna Colley-Lee Collection.
Study the exhibitions, engage in art analysis, and take a field trip to the Blanton Museum of Art to practice instructional methods. Hear a guest speaker from the Blanton Museum of Art as she leads an art-making project exploring the connection between art and personal narrative storytelling. Teachers will receive instructional materials for their classrooms, as well as CPE certificates.
The workshop is free, and parking is complimentary in the Museum’s garage located at 18th and N. Congress Avenue. Lunch will be on your own during an hour break.
