An Evening for Educators: African American History through Art

Programs

July 15, 2015 5:00pm - 8:00pm

Experience the Bullock Museum – the biggest classroom in Texas – through special tours, activities, and film screenings. Designed for teachers of all grade levels and subjects, this free event will introduce new film-related curriculum guides and activities, professional development opportunities, and unique classroom resources. Plus, enjoy prize drawings, refreshments, the company of fellow teachers, and receive a certificate of participation, SBEC approved.

Join us for a free event exclusively for teachers, and explore the Museum’s art-focused summer exhibitions.

And Still We Rise: Race, Culture and Visual Conversations features nearly 70 story quilts by contemporary artists from the Women of Color Quilters Network. The exhibition narrates nearly four centuries of African American history from 1619 through today; the featured pieces draw on the enduring American tradition of visual storytelling through the textile art of quilting.

Reflections: African American Life from the Myrna Colley-Lee Collection offers an intimate view of African American life and culture through a broad range of 20th century art. Featuring paintings, works on paper, fabric work, and photographs, Reflections presents the lives, traditions, and environments of African Americans from the 20th century to the present.

Learn how to analyze and interpret various forms of artwork by exploring the galleries with an art educator, creating your own story quilts, and practicing new techniques to take back to your classroom.

Come anytime from 5-8pm, but you won’t want to miss these scheduled events:
