B Movies and Bad History: Texas Lawmen
Programs
March 23, 2016 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Join experts for clips and conversation about one of the most storied Hollywood characters– the Texas lawman.
B Movies and Bad History takes participants on a tour of some of the best (and worst) Texas-centric movies and television shows with historians, authors, and media experts as they expose the historical facts and fiction on-screen.
In the popular imagination, few characters have come to capture the image of Texas and the wild west more than the Ranger, Sheriff, or Marshal. In the Hollywood depiction, these lawmen ride on horseback, wear 10-gallon hats, carry six-shooters, and usually solve problems through fist fights or shootouts. Join former official State Historian of Texas Dr. Frank de la Teja and former Director of the Texas Film Commission Tom Copeland for an exploration of the image portrayed on-screen versus the reality of historic Texas lawmen as portrayed in clips from several movies.
