After more than a decade in the making, the time has come! We invite you to join us for the Grand Re-Opening of our first floor Texas history gallery, Becoming Texas: Our Story Begins Here.
Event Details
Be the very first to see the new exhibition including never-before-displayed artifacts from Spanish shipwrecks, American Indian cultures, and Spanish missions and presidios. Curators, researchers, and special guests will be on-hand to answer questions on this special day just for members. Enjoy complimentary drinks, parking, screenings of the multi-sensory film Shipwrecked, family activities, and not to miss drumming and dancing performances by Great Promise for American Indians.
Learn about the earliest inhabitants of the land we now call Texas using the most contemporary research on our past. Try your hand at a bow and arrow interactive, and explore how integral the bison was to life on the plains of Texas. Re-discover the excavated hull and cargo of the 300-year-old ship, La Belle, and hear the voices of those who were here before us as you move through the visually stunning landscape of Texas.
Please note this event is open to Museum members. Not a member? Join today.
