Connecting the Past and Present: A New Framework for Teaching Propaganda

Programs

September 24, 2016 9:30am - 2:00pm

Held in conjunction with the opening of State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda, this workshop provides an opportunity for teachers to explore the special exhibition and discover educational resources on propaganda from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum.

The history of the Holocaust highlights the danger of propaganda and how societies can become vulnerable to extreme messages. This interactive one-day workshop will offer teachers unique strategies for helping students engage with historical propaganda and view messages they encounter today with a more critical eye.

Educators from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Bullock Museum will explore content and themes from the special exhibition State of Deception: The Power of Nazi Propaganda. Classroom-ready teaching resources will be modeled and shared.

This workshop is free of charge and is appropriate for teachers from diverse disciplines. No previous experience teaching about the Holocaust is required. Educators specializing in language arts, media, history, social studies, information literacy, and current events are especially encouraged to participate. Space is limited to 50 teachers. Because we expect this workshop to fill to capacity, please let us know as soon as possible if you need to cancel so that others might attend in your place.

Parking is complimentary in the Museum’s garage, and light breakfast refreshments and lunch will be provided. CPE certificates to be provided, SBEC approved.
