The evening begins at 6 p.m. with The South Austin Moonlighters. If you’ve seen more than a handful of shows in Texas, there’s a good chance you’ve seen most, if not all, of the musicians who make up the South Austin Moonlighters. They have earned their place among the elite of Austin’s burgeoning music scene and have played key roles in bands like Fastball, Monte Montgomery, The Whiskey Sisters, Stonehoney, and Jimmy LaFave. They are national Americana recording artists, coming in at #61 on the Americana charts and #1 on the Alternative Country Radio Report in 2019. The South Austin Moonlighters are regulars in most of the finer honky-tonks, listening rooms, and venues throughout Texas and beyond.
Then, Austin-based musician, singer, storyteller, and songwriter Guy Forsyth returns for an unforgettable headlining performance. A winner of several Austin Music Awards, including Best Vocalist, Guy delivers diverse roots music, with an emphasis on classic and original blues, where the story always comes first. He earned a ten-year residency at the legendary Antone’s nightclub, “the home of the blues,” and recorded several records on the house label. He has toured the U.S. and Europe and opened for Ray Charles, Robert Cray, Dr. John, B.B. King, and Lucinda Williams, among many others. Through his mastery of the guitar, harmonica, and musical saw, he brings a passionate and plaintive vocal soundscape.
Public programs at the Bullock Museum explore relevant history and celebrate the culture that has shaped our modern world. Through engaging discussions, live performances, and experiential activities visitors are invited to see local connections and discover how Texas fits into a broader national story.
