Writer/producer/director James L. Brooks adapts Larry McMurtry's novel about the turbulent lives and times of a single mother and her daughter, played by Shirley MacLaine and Debra Winger. This story of two fiercely individualistic and self-reliant Texas women was ahead of its time, and garnered five Academy Awards. With unforgettable turns from Jack Nicholson (in one of his most memorable roles), John Lithgow, Danny DeVito and Jeff Daniels.
