Landmark Maps Of Texas

Print Page

The shape of Texas is recognized far beyond its borders, but those borders were established less than 200 ago.

This exhibition of more than 60 historic maps, including some that had never before been on display, as well as modern maps created through cutting-edge technology like holography and satellite imaging, traced the evolution of the shape of Texas through 500 years of mapmaking – from the sixteenth century to the present day.

The exhibition was organized by the Bullock Museum in conjunction with the Virginia Garrett Cartographic History Library, Special Collections Division of the University of Texas at Arlington Libraries, and in cooperation with the Texas State Historical Association and the Texas Map Society.

Additional support was provided by Stewart Title Guaranty Company with support from The Summerlee Foundation. Additional underwriting was provided by the Texas State History Museum Foundation.
