Event Details
Join the Bullock Museum and Texas Folklife for an afternoon of musical performances at the outdoor Capitol Mall Amphitheater. In its 18th season, The Big Squeeze stands as Texas Folklife's premier statewide platform for talented youth accordion players to showcase their performance prowess in a variety of iconic Texas genres, including polka, zydeco, conjunto, Tejano, Cajun, and more.
While taking a brief hiatus from the traditional contest format this year, we are delighted to bring the essence of The Big Squeeze to the community with an exciting lineup of performers in a vibrant showcase and interactive community event with MC Percy Cardona.
Enjoy performances from Rodrigo Gonzales with students Jayden Bucio, Adiel Vazquez, Alyssa Villarreal, and Ruby Acosta; Juan Longoria Jr., accompanied by Juan Longoria III; and Levi Burroughs, followed by a feature performance from La Calma.
Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets to create a comfortable space to view the performances.
The Big Squeeze Contest will make its return in 2025!
Program is FREE to the public; if you would like to visit the Museum exhibitions please purchase tickets at the Ticketing Counter.
Texas Folklife is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and presenting the diverse cultures and living heritage of the Lone Star State. Since 1984, Texas Folklife has honored the cultural traditions passed down within communities across Texas and explored their importance in contemporary society. As the state-designated public folklife program of Texas, we promote cultural sustainability through our commitment to support artists, tradition bearers, and communities.
Public programs at the Bullock Museum explore relevant history and celebrate the culture that has shaped our modern world. Through engaging discussions, live performances, and experiential activities visitors are invited to see local connections and discover how Texas fits into a broader national story.
