Enjoy a FREE day full of discovery and learning at the Bullock Museum for homeschool families

Event Details

Discover the history of the French ship La Belle during its 30th anniversary at the Bullock Texas State History Museum. Join us to explore French culture and heritage with Museum educators and community partners and discover the ways in which French art, food, history, and fashion have impacted Texas and the world!

Museum admission is free for homeschool families and RSVPs are not required. Discounted school group rates for films in the IMAX® Theatre and Texas Spirit Theater are available from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; film tickets may be purchased in advance online and at the Museum on Homeschool Day.

Directions and Parking Information

Attend special hands-on activities between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

  • 11 a.m. Talk to a Museum Curator about a French-themed artifact and the role it played in Texas's history.
  • 11:30 a.m. Enjoy a story time about famous French leader Napoleon and how the great military genius was foiled by…bunnies. Then, craft your own army medal.
  • Explore French culture and heritage with two special paid classes. Topics and times to be announced soon.

Drop in anytime between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for activities, resources, and exhibitions.

  • Put your language skills to the test in a French kitchen by learning French words for food and cooking utensils. Then, craft your own paper "toque blanche" (chef's hat).
  • Craft your own stained glass suncatcher and enjoy pictures of France's famous stained glass cathedral windows.
  • Build a decorative bunting and explore the colorful jerseys used in the Tour de France, an annual French bicycle race.
  • Experience La Belle display in the Becoming Texas exhibition on the first floor and learn all about the French ship that changed Texas history.
  • Buy tickets to see IMAX documentaries Cities of the FutureAnimal KingdomLasting Impressions, and Ancient Caves and tickets to the Texas Spirit Theater films Shipwrecked and Star of Destiny.
  • Explore Museum exhibitions with educational activity guides.
